School education and support for the Ethiopian people

Our mission

Strawberry Fields Onlus is a non-profit organisation based in Milan, Italy.
Since 2015, it has been active and operating in Africa in the field offree education, basic needs, local supporte e and volunteering through development projects in Ethiopia.

The population of Ethiopia stands at around 112 million people, 26.7% of whom live in absolute poverty, on a maximum of $1.90 a day.

This situation not only undermines the universal right to a life of dignity, but also prevents the majority of children in the country from accessing primary education.

FOUNDERS

In light of these facts, Strawberry Fields Onlus has set itself precise objectives:

Making primary education accessible to as many children as possible, because it is a right that must be guaranteed and protected.

Concretely supporting the basic needs of women and men.

Raising funds and financially supporting solidarity projects for the Ethiopian people.

Organising voluntary work in Ethiopia as well as in Italy.

This powerful quote encapsulates the primary aim of Strawberry Fields Onlus: the realisation that one of the key factors in enabling a country to develop and become self-sufficient is that its population is educated.

It is no coincidence that ensuring quality, equitable and inclusive education, whilst promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, is one of the 17 goals set out in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Protecting the most vulnerable, through the care of others

Strawberry Fields Onlus was born from the idea and above all from the heart of three girls: Maria Vittoria, Diva Maddalena e Francesca

During their time at the Filippin Institutes (Veneto, Italy), they came into contact with the religious order of the Brothers of the Christian Schools of La Salle, as well as with the core principles upon which the lay religious congregation was founded: to provide free schooling and education to children from the poorest backgrounds.

From here, Maria Vittoria, Diva Maddalena and Francesca set off as volunteers for Ethiopia, travelling between Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa, and upon their return to Italy, they joined forces to found, in 2015, Strawberry Fields Onlus.

Our added value to the cause

There are People who support and work with the Association; they are indispensable and invaluable, and it is thanks to them their commitment and dedication which makes it possible to carry out the mission of Strawberry Fields Onlus.

Of all of them, one in particular: Brother Kassu Fantaye. Br. Kassu, spiritual and operational guidance for the charity, is an Ethiopian religious brother who has chosen to devote his life to promoting education. He is currently the Headmaster of the St. John Baptist de La Salle Catholic School, a school on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, dedicated to the education of children from the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Orphanage and those living in neighbouring districts, with a total of 1,649 pupils.
